DIY Portable Solar Power Supply

12 Jan 2017

I put together a basic portable solar power supply from a 20 watt solar panel, and 4 12v Batteries from Amazon. I thought I would turn summer camping out of the back of the Durango into summer glamping out of the back of the Durango. Hence the husky tool box battery housing, to make it […]

The Truth About California’s Ammo Laws

09 Jan 2017

The truth about California’s ammo laws, is that they are complete bullshit. They don’t work, haven’t worked, will continue to not work, will make criminals of law abiding citizens, and infringe on the Second Amendment. For the completely uninformed, California passed bill SB53 among a slew of other anti second amendment laws, requiring residents pay […]

Cheap MIG Welder

06 Jan 2017

I bought a cheap MIG 130 Welder off of Amazon. There are a ton of things around the property I frequently want to weld, or at least tack weld. Whether its a cage or fencing material, a part on a BBQ, a custom bolt head, a gate latch, or automotive related stuff, like the cargo carrier we used on the back of the Jeep Wrangler to haul out my girlfriend’s Elk last hunting season.

Chukar Hunting

29 Nov 2016

While visiting a friend, he suggested we grab my 12 gauge out of the truck, go up the hill in his backyard and do a bit of Chukar hunting. I couldn’t see why not. His small cabin sits on quite a few acres, backs up to BLM land, and is ideal habitat for Chukars. Just look at the picture below and judge for yourself.

Afternoon Grouse Hunting With Video

26 Oct 2016

I took a break from web work to see if I couldn’t bag a grouse and maybe clear my mind. I’ve been pretty distracted lately. I lost my dog and best friend to cancer a couple of days ago, and its sort of the thing dominating my head space. Anyway, I usually take my 10/22 […]

Dove Decoys Part 2 – Shaping

24 Oct 2016

Update on dove decoy making. The majority of rough shaping of the first decoy is done. Need to work on head shape, then detail, but in general its looking half decent. I don’t ever start a project thinking I won’t finish it, but I was genuinely concerned that I didn’t have the talent to shape wood blanks into a convincing dove.

Dove Decoys Part 1

19 Oct 2016

I plan to use dove decoys and some bird seed to get doves to more frequently land in the yard. I drafted a dove pattern on paper for a wooden dove decoy, glued up some blanks from some scrap 2x4s and got to work.

12 Foot Pounds, 600 FPS Plus, Crosman 1322

18 Oct 2016

As it turns out, 12 Foot pounds of energy is possible with the Crosman 1322 without increased barrel length. I am getting shot strings over 600 FPS and a few as high as 618 FPS, with Crosman Premier Domed and Pointed 14.3g pellets.

Elk Hunting, Meat, and Idiots

18 Oct 2016

I’ve been out elk hunting with my girlfriend. She has a few tags to fill, and so I’ve been supporting her effort to do that. It’s the reason that its been a while since I posted anything. She filled her elk tag, as you can see from the feature photo of two beautiful backstraps. We butchered it, and we’ve been busy processing, grinding, sausage making, etc.

Eat Jackrabbits

Can you eat jackrabbits? The short answer is Yes. However, if you ask most American hunters if you can eat a jackrabbit, the answers are lots of variants of No. The most common responses are: “You can eat almost anything, doesn’t mean it will taste good.” “I’d rather eat boot leather.” “They are stringy and […]

Better Solar Battery Bank

I built a solar powered backup battery a couple years ago, but decided to make a better solar battery bank. I originally thought I needed more room for more 12v lead acid batteries when I built the last version. I never added 12v lead acid batteries, because LiPo batteries started looking appealing, and did not […]
